Congrats to a few of our 8th grade boys for hitting the reading milestone of 250,000 words so far this year! We've had multiple other middle school students hit big milestones on their way to a million words as well! Way to be, Tigers!

6th grade Science has been studying thermal energy transfer.   Their challenge was to make their own coolers to keep a block of ice cold for 4 hours.  We weighed the remaining ice.  Jacob Fote had the heaviest block of ice remaining and was the winner with his homemade “Yeti”.  Colt (2nd), Tycho (3rd), Jaxson (4th), Addison (5th).   Great job 6th grade!  We will celebrate our efforts by making homemade ice cream in a bag Friday and our own pizzas.  We also made popcorn using three types of energy transfer: Radiation (microwave popcorn), Convection (air popper), Conduction (skillet popcorn).

Our high school English students have been hard at work sharpening their reading, writing, and analytical skills! Here's what they've been up to: English I – Students have been exploring nonfiction texts and just wrapped up a comparative analysis essay, where they successfully used APA citation. They also put their editing skills to the test, checking for grammar and punctuation errors to strengthen their writing! English II – Dystopian literature is the focus as students prepare to dive into The Hunger Games! They’ve been practicing annotation, studying the elements of dystopias, and recognizing these elements in books and films to build a strong foundation before starting the novel. English III – Students are deep in analysis of the classic novel, The Great Gatsby. Right now, they’re working on analytical essays, choosing from three prompts to explore symbolism, theme, and key plot developments in the novel. English IV – Reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett, students have been researching and discussing 1950s and 1960s America to draw meaningful connections between history and the novel’s themes.

Tiger Fabrications has big news to share. Thanks to an Applegate grant, we were able to purchase a Smartstitch embroidery machine. This machine is going to be the next big step for the business. We have been able to work a little in the program, but have lots to learn still. Be sure to follow us on our Facebook page, along with Thrillshare, to see our future endeavors.
