Junior parents, you should have received a letter in the mail from the school regarding the upcoming ACT test that they will be taking on Tuesday, March 25. Please return the ACT Parental Consent Form to the school, which was included with that letter of explanation. Let us know if you have any questions regarding this.

Today’s challenge for 6th grade: build a tower as tall as Taven with less than 150 blocks.

The 6th grade will be creating their own building challenges with legos and blocks. The challenge was picked and the groups had to build a free standing tower 3 feet tall with only legos in 25 minutes. They accomplished this and decided they could build even higher with the right design ideas. We are working on cooperation and using encouraging words as well as completing the challenge.

The Paxton FFA had a very successful day at North Platte competing in the second CDE contest of the year. Our students competed against other FFA Chapters ranging from D2- Class A schools in welding, natural resources, ag sales, and floriculture competitions. The Ag Sales fielded two teams finished in the number 1 and number 3 spots punching their ticket to compete at the Nebraska State FFA convention held in Lincoln April 2-4. All 9 students who competed in the ag sales competition made their way to the stage to receive ribbons. The welding team also found their way into a state qualification with a fourth place finish, and three ribbon earners. Paxton fielded two floriculture teams and finished in the alternate for state convention position winning 4 individual ribbons for their efforts. The natural resources team also found themselves just out of a state qualification in the second alternate position earning two individual ribbons respectively. We are proud of our FFA members and all of the effort they have put in thus far, and look forward to going on to compete for state titles and an opportunity to represent Nebraska at the National FFA Convention in Indiana.

Congrats to a few of our 8th grade boys for hitting the reading milestone of 250,000 words so far this year! We've had multiple other middle school students hit big milestones on their way to a million words as well! Way to be, Tigers!

6th grade Science has been studying thermal energy transfer. Their challenge was to make their own coolers to keep a block of ice cold for 4 hours. We weighed the remaining ice. Jacob Fote had the heaviest block of ice remaining and was the winner with his homemade “Yeti”. Colt (2nd), Tycho (3rd), Jaxson (4th), Addison (5th). Great job 6th grade! We will celebrate our efforts by making homemade ice cream in a bag Friday and our own pizzas. We also made popcorn using three types of energy transfer: Radiation (microwave popcorn), Convection (air popper), Conduction (skillet popcorn).

Paxton Schools will be closed Tuesday, March 4th. Stay safe!
