6th grade science has been studying thermal energy and made homemade ice cream in a bag. They also used food coloring to demonstrate how warm water is less dense than cold water. When warm water was turned upside down on cold water, the colors did not mix. The student enjoyed their “magic” tricks. When cold water was turned upside down onto warm, the colors mixed because the cold water dropped to the bottom. We also made popcorn 3 ways to demonstrate conduction, convection, and radiation.
