Over the past 5 months students in the beef productions class have been responsible for the management of three head of calves being housed at the Paxton Feeders Program barn. Through this experience they have learned about feed rations, animal nutrition and health, and basic cattle handling.
They have weighed the cattle weekly to gather information on their feed ration efficiency and surpassed their goal of a 2.5 average daily gain by achieving a gain of 2.91 pounds per day.
