The 7th graders participated in a "water walk" activity in English class to introduce them to their next class novel, A Long Walk to Water. Student volunteers walked around the classroom multiple times carrying jugs of water to get a slight taste of what it would be like to haul heavy water across long distances. The novel A Long Walk to Water focuses on the Sudanese civil war and the water scarcity issues many face in South Sudan. This activity helped students gain some perspective and empathy for the main characters.
